Closures And Delays As Ice and Cold Persist Throughout Region

Several schools, churches and other businesses have announced closures. We’ll keep you all posted below as additional information comes in.

A severe winter storm system has made its way through our region. While the impacts were mostly minimal within our region, ice and bitter cold temperatures are persisting.

As we move into Tuesday, some school systems are announcing delayed start times to help protect the safety of everyone traveling. We'll outline those below as they come in. Come back for updates

School Systems

Cumberland County Schools - 2 Hour Delay Tuesday

After assessing schools and county roads following the recent inclement weather, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) will operate on a two-hour delay for students and school-based staff on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.

Fort Bragg DoDEA - Regular schedule Tuesday

Fort Bragg schools will operate on a normal schedule.

Robeson County - 2 Hour Delay Tuesday

The Public Schools of Robeson County will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. There will be no Primetime morning care or breakfast on Tuesday due to the delay.

Columbus County Schools - 2 Hour Delay Tuesday

Columbus County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, January 27, for students and staff due to severe cold and dangerous wind chills.

Moore County Schools - Remote Day Tuesday

Due to ongoing hazardous conditions on several secondary roads caused by ice accumulation, and with freezing temperatures expected overnight that may create additional black ice conditions, Moore County Schools will operate on a Remote Learning Day for students on Tuesday, January 27.

Sampson County Schools - 2 Hour Delay Tuesday

On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Sampson County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for students and staff. This delay will allow bus drivers and staff additional daylight to better see any remaining icy patches on the roads.

Hoke County Schools - 2 Hour Delay Tuesday

Due to the continued cold temperatures forecasted overnight and the possibility of some re-freezing occurring on the roads, Hoke County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Elementary schools will start at 9:45 a.m., and the middle and high schools will start at 10:30 a.m. Please ensure students are dressed warmly while waiting at the bus stop. Lee County Schools - Remote Learning Tuesday

Due to unsafe road conditions, all schools will operate on a remote learning day tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, for all students. Teachers sent home assignments on Friday in anticipation of possible remote instruction. Staff will have an optional workday with a three-hour delay.

Harnett County Schools - Remote Learning Tuesday

Due to inclement weather, Harnett County Schools will operate on a remote learning schedule on Tuesday, January 27, for all students and staff.

Richmond County Schools - Remote Day Tuesday

Out of an abundance of caution, Richmond County Schools will continue to operate on a remote instructional day for students, tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th due to the ice remaining on secondary roads and overnight temperatures that are expected to result in refreezing. Staff will have an optional workday with a two-hour delay.

Bladen County Schools - 2-Hour Delay Tuesday

Bladen County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for students and staff tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Wind chills are forecasted to be in the single digits.

Colleges and Universities

FTCC - 10 a.m. Opening Tuesday

Out of caution and concern for the safety of students, faculty and staff, FTCC will operate on a delayed opening at 10 AM Tuesday morning, January 27 due to the forecast for temperatures to fall well below freezing overnight Monday, resulting in the possibility of some roads in the area refreezing.  

Fayetteville State University - Delayed Tuesday opening

The University remains under Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) until Tuesday, January 27, at 9:59 a.m. and will reopen on Tuesday, January 27, at 10 a.m. University operations will resume at 10:00 a.m., and all classes will resume at 11 a.m. For your safety, please do not enter campus until Condition 2 is cleared at 10:00 a.m.

Methodist University - Normal Schedule Tuesday

Methodist is back on a regular schedule for Tuesday (Jan. 27) for all students, faculty and staff. MU continues to closely monitor the weather, as safety is our first priority, and will always send any updates to your methodist.edu email address, the methodist.edu web site homepage, and MU official social media. Government and Military

Cumberland County - Delayed Opening Tuesday

Cumberland County will open with a one-hour delay on Tuesday, Jan. 27, as winter weather impacts continue across the area.

While road conditions have improved, dangerously low temperatures remain, prompting County officials to continue sheltering and warming operations and to urge residents to use caution.

County Operations Update

  • Most Cumberland County facilities will open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
  • Cumberland County Public Libraries will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Sheltering and Warming Centers

Cumberland County, in partnership with the City of Fayetteville and community partners, will open White Flag shelters and designated warming centers in response to expected below-freezing temperatures.

Fort Bragg - Normal Operations Tuesday

Base Operations will return to NORMAL status on Tuesday, January 27.

All personnel should use caution when traveling, allow extra time, and assess personal safety. Notify your chain of command or supervisor if you anticipate delays or are unable to report to work.

Soldier Support Center-including ID Card Office, in and out processing and Tap will return to normal operations

MWR-All facilities, including fitness centers and Child Development Centers (CDCs), will return to normal operating hours

AAFES and DECA-exchanges and commissaries will return to normal operating hours

🎓Fort Bragg schools will operate on a normal schedule.

🏥Womack Army Medical Center,

Cumberland County - Asynchronous Monday

Cumberland County Schools will operate on an asynchronous remote learning day on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. All after-school activities are canceled, Prime Time is closed, and district offices and buildings will be closed, with staff working remotely.

Robeson County - Closed Monday

All PSRC schools and facilities will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, due to inclement weather conditions. Stay tuned to official district social media channels and our website for updates on operations for Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Fort Bragg DoDEA Schools - Closed Monday

Alll schools will be closed Monday.

Hoke County - Remote Monday

With the forecast of frozen precipitation over the weekend, Hoke County Schools will have a remote learning day on Monday, January 26th, 2026. Students will work independently on assignments provided by their teachers. The district will continue to monitor conditions, and any changes will be posted to our social media pages, school websites, and local media outlets. As a reminder, all weekend school-related activities have been cancelled. Thank you and stay safe.

Lee County - Remote Learning Monday

Due to inclement weather and unsafe road conditions, all schools will operate on a remote learning day tomorrow, Monday, January 26, 2026, for all students and staff. Teachers sent home assignments on Friday in anticipation of possible remote instruction.

Harnett County Schools - Remote Learning Monday

Due to inclement weather, Harnett County Schools will operate on a remote learning schedule tomorrow, Monday, January 26, for all students and staff.

Scotland County Schools - Remote Learning Monday, 2 Hour Delay Tuesday

Due to inclement weather and icy road conditions, tomorrow, Monday, January 26, will be a remote learning day for students and a remote workday for staff. District offices will also be closed and will operate on a remote work schedule as well. Students were sent home with assignments on Friday and are expected to complete that work tomorrow. In addition to a remote learning and work day tomorrow, Scotland County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for students and staff on Tuesday, January 27.

Richmond County Schools - Remote Monday

Due to the impacts of the winter storm across our area, Richmond County Schools will transition to a remote instructional day tomorrow, Monday, January 26, for all students, and staff will have an optional remote workday.

Bladen County Schools - Asynchronous Monday

BCS Families—Due to expected winter weather in our area, Bladen County Schools will transition to an asynchronous remote learning day for Monday, January 26. Asynchronous learning means that students will work independently on assignments that teachers have either posted in Canvas, Google Classroom, or will be sending home with students tomorrow, Friday, January 23. Staff will receive information regarding work schedule from their supervisors.

Moore County Schools - Remote Monday

As a result of the forecasted winter weather conditions which are expected to continue through Monday evening, Moore County Schools will operate as a Remote Learning Day for students on Monday, January 26, 2026. All Moore County Schools campuses will be closed.

Colleges and Universities

FTCC - All Campuses Closed Monday

Due to continued inclement weather conditions Sunday and Monday, all campuses of Fayetteville Technical Community College will be closed on Monday, January 26. The College will transition to a remote learning day for faculty and students.  

Fayetteville State University - Suspended Operations Monday (Condition 2)

According to the latest weather information, the Fayetteville area is expected to see continued freezing rain, along with extreme temperatures, over the next few days. In anticipation of the inclement weather, the University will operate under Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) beginning Monday, January 26, 2026. 

 The University will continue to monitor the weather reports and will provide updates. Please monitor the FSU website for any changes.

What you need to know:

• All classes and student activities are cancelled.

• The Early Childhood Learning Center and the library will be closed.

• Shuttle service is suspended.

• Dining services will provide adjusted operations.

Methodist University - Remote Monday

Out of an abundance of caution and potential icy road conditions, Methodist University will be on a remote schedule for all students, faculty and staff on Monday, January 26, 2026. Only essential personnel should report to campus as determined by their supervisors.

Students should look to communication from their faculty and in Canvas course sites for details about remote classes. Students doing off-campus clinical and field placements should follow guidelines from their respective sites. All online courses remain on a regular schedule.

UNC Pembroke - Suspended Until 12 p.m. Monday

Based on the forecasted potential for winter weather, UNCP will transition to Condition 2 — Suspended Operations status at 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026.

The university will remain in Condition 2 status through noon on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. All Monday classes before noon are canceled. Classes will resume at 12:20 p.m. on Monday, unless otherwise communicated.

Robeson Community College - Remote Monday

RCC remote Monday.

Government

Cumberland County - Offices Closed, no court Monday

The Cumberland County Courthouse will be closed Monday, January 26th due to inclement weather. The Clerk of Court will notify individuals with updated court dates. As always, please call our office at (910)229-2022 if you need any assistance and we will be happy to assist.

Due to the wintry weather, and out of an abundance of caution, Cumberland County Government offices will be CLOSED, tomorrow, Monday, January 26, 2026. County Management, in coordination with Emergency Management, will continue to monitor conditions and will determine Tuesday operating hours by 12 p.m. (noon) on Monday.
